Open Field Family Session

There’s something special about an open field family session where the connection between everyone just jumps out at you. I recently photographed a family at sunset in an open field, and the photos speak for themselves. Whether it was the parents cracking up or those laid-back moments where everyone felt totally comfortable, you could tell these weren’t stiff, posed shots. They were real, honest moments that showed exactly who they are as a family.

Now, I’ve got to say—fall is hands down the best time to book a session. That golden light at sunset was magical. And with the cooler weather, you’re not sweating through your clothes while trying to look cute, which is always a win. Plus, the fall colors make everything look even better. If you’re thinking about getting family photos done, now’s the time before the holiday madness sets in.

What I love most about an open field family session is ditching the stiff, overly posed shots. I focus on the off-guard moments—when your family is just being themselves. It’s the little, candid moments that end up feeling the most like you. Those are the photos that mean the most when you look back on them, the ones that truly capture the vibe of your family.
